As she wraps her mind and excitement around the joys of a birthday, she has yet to grasp the concept of time. Telling my Brown Eyed Gilr that her birthday is in three weeks means nothing. She wants tomorrow. 22 days... I might as well be speaking another language. She only has ears for tomorrow.
As the days slipped away, her birthday finally came.
This really was a big birthday milestone for my Brown Eyed Girl. It was her first year to celebrate her birthday at school. I made sure to send cupcakes. The ones with gobs and gobs of frosting - just the way she likes them. That morning she was so excited to have her birthday at school. She talked about how she would get to sit in the "big chair" and all the kids would sing to her. The "big chair" is the teacher's chair. Quite the honor indeed.
At the end of the day just before pick up time, all of her classmates - 8 girls and 1 boy - gathered around the teacher's chair while my Brown Eyed Girl sat down, an excited gleam in her eye.
As she was adorned with the "Birthday Crown" her smile spread wider across her face.
As the kids began to sing to her, she flushed a rosy glow. She sat ever so still with her hands in her lap as her classmates sang. I had never seen that expression on her face. I know all 7247290 faces she makes. This one was new. I wasn't sure if she was embarrassed, just blushing or about to pass out/vomit. I felt a little uncomfortable watching for a split second. But by the time the song was over, she jumped up from the "big chair" and giggled wildly.
All the kids gathered around the tables and we served
Mr Blue Eyes bellied right up next to the big kids so he could have a cupcake too.
...and so did his little blonde side-kick.
Mmmm, frosting!
On Saturday, our Brown Eyed Girl's actual big day, we ventured over to a local indoor play place. Twelve kids showed up to play and celebrate the big day.
The grandparents and parents gabbed.
We had the whole place to ourselves!
Mr Blue Eyes was in heaven. He ran around exploring independently searching every nook and cranny. He watched all of the bigger kids climb the equipment. He was very curious, but definitely not as fearless as his big sister was at the same age. With a little help from daddy, he was able to go down the BIG inflatable slide, just like the big kids. The first two times he went down on daddy's lap. The third time, Daddy held back and let him go solo.
For the first 3.5 seconds I am pretty sure it was sheer terror. The scariest moment of his entire life up until this point. But by the time he slowed to a stop, the fear on his face was replaced with the biggest grin that boy has ever worn.
... and he was ready for more!
After play time was over - which always seems too short - the kids were corralled into a party room.My Purple Princess THE Tangled ordered a purple Rapunzel cake for her big day. Thanks to a family friend, last minute stop at three stores to find something, anything Tangled, and some purple food coloring later...
The cake was a success! Our fancy baker even turned the white cake inside a lovely shade of lavender for my little princess.
There was more blushing as everyone sang "Happy Birthday" to her. With one large breath, she blew out all four lovely pink candles.
We had a little confusion during the gift opening part... but we got her turned around and she opened all of her gifts - uggg more toys - in front of all of her friends.
Many Thanks. Many Smiles. Many Great Memories.
Four...
The natural number following 3 and preceding 5. The only number that has the same number of characters as its value in the English language. There are four great elements - earth, water, fire and wind. Four suites of playing cards. Four cardinal directions. Four seasons.
This is going to be a phenomenal year my Brown Eyed Girl! I love you, and you make me soooo happy!
