Running of the Green

I just can't help but toot my own horn today.

Sunday, I joined my dear friend Rebecca and one of her friends in my very first 7K held down town Denver called the Running of the Green.

I have not always been a runner. I first laced up my sneakers in 2011 as a way to get back into shape after Mr Blue Eyes was born. A whole summer spent training and I completed my very first 5K mud run with another great friend of mine, Lisa. The Dirty Girl was messy and crazy and funny and for the first time in my life I felt like I really could do anything I put my mind to.

I have been lacing my sneakers up off an on over the last couple years. But this year I set a new goal to complete my first half marathon.

Crazy right! I mean who on earth would voluntarily run for 13 miles?

This journey has been challenging. Longer runs every week. A health issue has kept me from really locking down that one, specific race. But I keep lacing up those sneakers and moving my feet. I get excited every time I step on the scale and see that I am give or take 30 lbs down from when I first decided to start running in 2011. I am in better shape and I feel better every day.

Although my goal is 13 miles this year. I am still pretty much in awe that I finished a 7K this weekend of all running, in a reasonable time to boot. I am one third of the way there! Gotta keep this train a moven' and keep lacing up those sneakers.
