This time of year is always bitter-sweet.
As the years go by, I have let go of a lot of the Pintrest frills. However, I admit that I still geek out for the first day of school. I thoroughly enjoy dragging out the vintage chalkboard I bought for my Brown Eyed Girl's first day of Preschool. Carefully filling in the obligatory first day information - new grade, date, and what they want to be when they grow up.
Second Grade!
Mr Blue Eyes is a simple man.
He never wavers very far from the goals he sets in his mind. In all 8 years of wisdom, I am pretty confident that I am either looking at a future Monster Truck Driver or Hockey Player. Current status is leaning towards a Hockey Player!
This kid has my heart! He is kind, compassionate, athletic, analytical and so very smart. He loves shooting pucks in the driveway, hitting golf balls, playing with cars, monster trucks and tanks. He loves socializing with all of his friends - the "play date" kid. His favorite color is blue. He likes Minecraft (against my better judgement) and playing video games. He humors his sister and cousins by playing Breyer horses with them. He loves animals. He likes to sleep in and still snuggles with me every evening before bed time. He still loves to tell jokes and make us laugh. He idolizes Handy Man and I have no doubt he will grow up to be just like him.
Fifth Grade!
I think I asked my Brown Eyed Girl what she wanted to be when she grew up a hundred times. I suggested everything from a veterinarian, architect, floor sweeper, to a florist. She just kept saying, "I don't know Mom."
Girl!! I got a sign to make!!!
She finally settled on a horse trainer! I am good with that.
My Brown Eyed Girl is amazing. Everything about her, simply amazing. She is brave, kind and stoic. She is adventurous, a thrill seeker and lives life to it's fullest. She is my early riser. She still greets every day with a smile and is by far the happiest morning person I have ever met in my entire life. She has the most amazing heart when it comes to animals. Big or small, she loves them all. She is a natural born leader and extremely competitive. She loves gymnastics. She adores all things horses and is mildly obsessed with Breyer horse models, just like her mom was. Her favorite color is still purple. Her best friend is Miss Kitty - though Tucker has truly won her heart too. She is growing into a beautiful young lady right before our eyes and I am not sure if I should be happy, a little sad, or scared to death haha!
I am a little taken back when I realize that this is her last year of elementary school!
Next year - Junior High!! I... I just can't!!
I mean it honestly seems like just yesterday!
I have no doubt that these two kids will do great things this year!
Cheers to Second and Fifth Grade!!
