Like rounding the bumper holding Mr Blue Eyes on one hip and the other hand balancing car keys, cell phone, blankets, cars and waterbottles and almost stepping on a SNAKE!
I went four years without seeing a single reptile at our little house on the prairie. Less than 6 months and the first spring Miss Kitty has found her first poor little baby guarder snake.
I jumped a bit and sashayed away in order to assess type, sound and slither-ability.
Mr Blue Eyes squirmed as panic rose inside him.
The poor snake was in pretty bad shape and very scared. Harmless.
I assured Mr Blue Eyes that everything was going to be okay and set him on the steps to the house. I went for sissy with much protesting and then tears from Mr Blue Eyes.
My Brown Eyed Girl was excited to see the snake. She knew to stay back and not get near it. I told both kids they needed to go inside while mommy got the snake out of the garage. My Brown Eyed Girl wanted to watch but I wouldn't let her. I didn't want her thinking she could take circumstances in her own hands if she should encounter another snake. I wasn't ready to hand over the snake removal tools quite yet.
After they were in the house I scooped the little snake up with a shovel and took him out to the front yard by the road.
And then I showed the poor thing mercy.
About that time from the deck I heard my Brown Eyed Girl say, "Mommy, are you sending the baby snake to Heaven?"
Ahhh out of the mouths of babes.
