Sew With Me

So - A needle pulling thread...

Just ask Rah-Rah. I might not be a wiz in the kitchen, but I got the archaic domestic genes in the family. I am saying I am a sewing, needlepoint, counted-cross-stitching my little heart out kind of busy fingers.

Cross stitching is probably my favorite indoor past time.

In fact, if I am not reading in my spare time, I am always working on a cross stitch. I have many finished projects just waiting to be framed, hung, gifted... something.

I worked on this one this year for my Brown Eyed Girls room.

She loves watching me sew. For the last year she has made several comments that one day she would like me to teach her how to sew. A girl after my own heart!

So for Christmas, I found this cute little beginners kit.

An intro to cross stitching.

Last weekend while Daddy was hunting, we sat down and learned to sew!

I told her I always sew with a pillow on my lap so I can rest my arms - she got her little pillow out and we went to town.

She got a little OCD when the different colored stitches weren't perfectly matching up with the pre-printed picture.

I had to reassure her that we always count our stitches and never trust anything pre-printed on the fabric. I promised her I would not let her mess it up and once all the stitches were finished she wouldn't be able to see the pre-printed owl anyways - so it was better to follow the instructions and count the number of brown or teal stitches.

She finally agreed to trust me and we pushed on!

She is a sewing machine. She only had a few stitches that went off course and mom was able to fix them quickly. She needed help threading the needle and starting and ending each thread. But she moved that needle in and out like a pro!

She sewed non-stop for 5 hours!!

I had to make her finally take a break to eat lunch and stretch.

While taking a break for the rest of the day, she had me see what other things she could sew when she was done with her owl.

She is building her wish list and before I know it she will be asking me to set her up with her own Pinterest account!
