Beautiful Ice

Colorado never ceases to amaze me with it's versatile weather patterns. One minute we are experiencing snow, then next sunshine and beautiful.

This weekend we had record high temperatures out in our neck of the prairie. For March, that was really inviting. I actually got my first little sun burn on Friday. It was beautiful, sunny, a wonderful day to stay home from work!

Back at the grind today, I was flipping through some of my photos from the weekend. I realized that just 12 days ago it was freezing, ice covering everything.

I absolutely love the way a thin layer of ice looks out on the prairie. The way the ice hugs each delicate blade of  grass. I love how the early morning light glistens off the thin layer of ice making the trees and grasses come to life, sparkling and crystallized. It's next to impossible to describe. Next to impossible to capture the beauty in a photograph - especially a panoramic shot.

It is beautiful.

Amazing.

I can't wait to see spring buds on these trees!

One of my favorites!

This decorative grass by our house is gorgeous covered with ice.

Small beads of frozen beauty.

The pine trees look the most magical covered in ice.

Every little needle intricately covered in ICE!!!

Even this dead weed - pesky any other day - has a new found charm.

Of course I plan to chop it down next weekend when we do yard work and spring cleaning.

Geesh I wish you could see a panoramic photo and get the same appreciation I had for our Brown Eyed Girl standing in front of our pasture. The background was beautiful behind her (okay minus that sliver of a camper I managed to still get in the shot...)

She was chilly - not cold, because "Actually Mom, it's just chilly outside." - but insisted on seeing the ice and helping me feed horses.
