We may be on vacation, but the internal alarm clocks in my children refuse to take a day off. We started Day 1 at 6:30 am (5:30 am at home.) In retrospect, our early start just allowed us more time for one of the BEST days I have had in a long time - a really long time.
We lounged around. I didn't shower before noon. We sat outside and enjoyed the warm Midwestern day. Grandpop and Grandma Joan took our Brown Eyed Girl a half a block across the street to play at the best park I have ever seen - pictures later. We admired the new landscaping at the house and threw the Frisbee for JC - the largest chocolate lab I have ever known. He is a beast. Gigant-or. The clumsiest gentile giant. A face licking machine.
Grandpop was a human jungle gym.
Grandpop was a human jungle gym the happiest Grandpop in the world.
Next door to my dad lives the best family. They have four of the cutest kids. They own a small little farm just outside of town and have an assortment of 4-H animals. They invited us to come out in the evening and help bottle feed the calves.
Our Brown Eyed Girl was a little intimidated by those hungry little calves and the big bottles. As soon as we got out of the cars, the calves were balling, kids were running around, she was a little overwhelmed. She didn't want to stand very close to the gate, even for a picture. She wasn't very interested in the calves (at first) and spotted the lambs across the way.
Mr Blue Eyes on the other hand was fascinated.
Maybe he wanted to share?
The calf was more than willing to share and as soon as he finished his last gulp...
He planted a big, old, wet, slobbery milk kiss on Mr Blue Eyes.
Slobber on the cheek, there were no tears.
Just more kisses.
My little COWBOY!
And On That Farm There Was A...
...couple of baby ducks.
And On That Farm There Was A...
... a couple of piggies.
Crinkle, Stinkle & Finkle
The piggies like to eat marshmallows off sticks. They buck around and kick up their heels. They really are the goofiest things I have ever seen.
I can't help but hum to myself... To market, to market, to buy a fat pig, Home again, home again, jiggety-jig.
And giggle out load when Crinkle gooses Grandpop, leaving a gooey snout print on his rear.
Check out those piggy cheeks!
And On That Farm There Was A...
Super soft little bunny.
Who lives in a cage big enough for two children.
I am getting ideas for a new time out location...
And On That Farm There Was A...
...a whole bunch of little lambs.
We pet and scratched the farm kitty, Midnight, gathered eggs, and held baby chicks. It was quite the adventure, quite the experience. They had so much fun and loved all the baby animals. The little neighbor kids sure have quite the little farm out there.
When we got home, the Tractor King and our Brown Eyed Girl continued to play farm life. Building fences, positioning cows and sheep in the pens, and planting the crops.
Mr Blue Eyes couldn't wait to tell JC all about the farm.
We ate dinner on the patio and the rest of reality slipped away. I felt like I had been on vacation for a week.
I am loving it!
