What's Heaven?

I am constantly amazed at the intuitiveness of my Brown Eyed Girl. She may be just three, but she is a sponge for information. A wealth of knowledge in her own right. Curious. Bright. Growing ever more articulate with each passing day.

On our way in this morning my Brown Eyed Girl started singing her favorite song - Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. As I was singing along with her, she broke off into her own melody and started singing about a preacher and an apple. I was a little taken back by her choice of words. I know I have never used the word preacher before. I couldn't help but ask her where she learned that song. She couldn't tell me. I asked if she sang it at daycare - nope. I asked her if she learned it at preschool - nope. She just kept singing about a preacher and an apple.

A couple more miles down the road, she said, "Mommy, the buffalo died."

What the heck? "What buffalo honey?"

"The buffalo, Mommy, he dies."

"He dies?"

"Yes. The buffalo, he died. Where does he go when he dies, the buffalo?"

Kid, it's 7:00 in the morning, on a Tuesday. I have only had one cup of coffee. I hardly am ready to teach you about death. Think on your feet Mommy. Where? Let's see, "Well honey when people and animals die, they go to Heaven."

"Where is Heaven?"

Of course she asks where Heaven is, "Well, Heaven is in the sky."

"In the Sky?"

"Yep, in the sky."

"In the clouds?"

"Yep. Way up high in the sky, in the clouds."
Please let this be the end...

"Mommy?"

"Yeah?"

"Who else is in Heaven?"

A list... she wants a list... keep it simple, "Ummm well, Jesus and God are in Heaven."

"Jesus?"

"Yep Jesus."

"Mommy, the buffalo dies and goes to Heaven with Jesus."

"Yep."

"Mommy?"

What next? "Yeah honey?"

"Look Mommy! Donkeys!!"

And that was the end of the buffalo, death, Heaven and Jesus.

That's a lot to take in on a Tuesday morning. Pretty deep conversations for a morning commute. I am still wondering why the buffalo died... I think I am already starting to dread the whole Where Do Babies Come From conversation.

Happy Tuesday!
