It's been a long last couple of weeks. There has been a lot going on in our little bubble. I've been getting a little antsy, a little restless, my traveling shoes are fidgety. Our Sitter and her family are in England for a couple weeks, so the timing was perfect for us to take a family vacation (minus Handy Man).
We decided to venture out east again, a road trip to Iowa to visit Grandpop and Grandma Joan. I put in for some vacation. I loaded up the cavalry and we headed out bright and early Tuesday morning. I was praying for good weather, minimal traffic, and lots of patience. Patience all around.
The early morning sun posed to be the first mood shaker. Our innovative Brown Eyed Girl wore here Girl Scout underpants and tackled that mean old sun.
Unlike our last trip to Iowa, we made excellent timing in the morning. We were in Nebraska before we had even made our first stop - last time we had stopped 3 times before we even made it out of Colorado.
Once we had all relieved our selves at the gas station, we had a little breakfast picnic in the back of the truck.
Donuts and apple juice, road trip breakfast of champions - more coffee for the chauffeur.
A little break to stretch.
A little break to laugh and wiggle.
Then back in the car and on the road again. Before long both kids were napping.
A nice little break for mom. A chance to turn off the DVD player and the continual looping of Happy Feet. Don't get me wrong. If it weren't for that beautiful creation, I am not quite sure I could spend 12+ hours in the car with my children.
We stopped for lunch in York, Neb. and found a little park just off the highway. We had a little picnic in the grass...
...and enjoyed more road trip food.
Mr Blue Eyes had his very first introduction to french fries.
French fries!! It was love at first bite.
The rest of the trip was uneventful. We watched approcimately 3 movies, 362 times. We were able to meet up with the Stones in Missouri Valley for ice cream and a BK play place play date - I can't even think about the germ count. I was just banking on the tire-them-out-so-they-sleep-the-last-leg factor.
The natives got a little wrestless the last hour of so in the car. We sang and were delerious silly.
A little over fourteen hours later, we pulled into the driveway and were greated by a couple of very happy grandparents.
I am excited to spend a week in the slow lane.
